Rise Against – Ready to Fall
The original version of this video was banned by most TV channels. I guess music with an important message doesn’t seem like a nice intro to mindless dating shows, commercials and mindless dating show commercials. This is the censored version and it’s not difficult to watch, so I hope you’ll do it.
Rise Against are very outspoken about the issues that matter to them. Many of their songs deal with various human rights issues, the environment, animal cruelty, war, fair trade… Despite such a track record of important songs and music videos, singer Tim McIllrath considers the video for Ready to Fall the most important video they have ever made.
In a great interview with stand-up comedian Jamie Kilstein, Tim explained why they chose to make the video about animal rights and the environment: „It’s almost like someone just gave us the opportunity. Like they gave us a microphone and said: ‘If you could say anything to the world right now, what would you say?’
So here we had access to the airways. We were hijacking the airways for three minutes. So it was like, ‘What could we do?’ We could go around and stage some big rock show where we look like we’re super famous or go around in limos or do something very self-gratifying. Or we could use those three minutes to show some of the imagery that changed our lives.“
The best part about Rise Against is that they do what they can to make their actions live up to their beliefs – all members of the band are vegetarians or vegans.
